Enroll in a course today! Still unsure? Check out some tips before you enroll below.

What is the time commitment for courses?

For our facilitated courses, learners can expect to spend up to five hours per week on an average course. This includes reading assignments, recorded lectures, learning assessments, and a weekly virtual live session which is a regularly scheduled online meeting facilitated by the instructor. Most facilitated courses run for four weeks.

During self-guided courses, learners spend approximately two to three hours on readings and recorded lectures.

Can I complete courses at my own pace?

Most of our online facilitated courses are led by an instructor and intended to be completed on a weekly schedule. Typically, our course weeks run from Wednesday to Tuesday. So learners review the course materials and complete the assignments on their own schedule, with all assignments completed by Tuesday.

Each course includes a weekly virtual live session. This is the ideal time to engage with your instructor and other learners. The day and time of the live session is the same each week, but varies from course to course.

As the name implies, self-guided courses are completed at your own convenience.

Do I need any special background knowledge or experience to take courses?

There are no prerequisites for what we call “Foundations” courses (level 200). However, learners are encouraged to take the relevant self-guided “Getting Started” (level 100) courses before enrolling in a facilitated course. Learners should review the course description to determine if a course is a right fit for them. Courses of levels 300 and above may have prerequisites which will be listed in the course description.

How many courses can I take at the same time?

Learners may choose to take more than one course at a time. However, our learners usually spend on average five to six hours per week on coursework (in addition to their dedicated role serving the public!) Many of our learners have noted that taking two courses at the same time felt overwhelming and they would not do so again. But, the choice is yours.

How often does GovEx Academy offering facilitated courses?

While we tend to run only a handful of specific courses in any four week period, GovEx Academy offer most of our facilitated courses several times throughout the year. You can view the schedule of upcoming courses in our course catalog.

Self-guided courses are continuously available.

When is the deadline to enroll in a course?

For facilitated courses, you may enroll up to one day before the course start date if there are spaces available. Once a course reaches capacity, the course will be closed in the catalog and you will have the opportunity to register for the next offering of that course.

Self-guided courses have no enrollment deadlines.
